Behr Jendro Nursing Scholarship

We have donated this scholarship to Central Lakes College because we ourselves have
received excellent medical here in Minnesota. Whether we have been at the Mayo Clinic, a
hospital in the Twin Cities, or right here in Brainerd, the compassionate and skilled care of
nurses has made a major difference in our lives. Nurses have been there to comfort and
encourage us when everyone else has gone home. Nurses have been the reason for our hope
in the dark of the night.

*Should you decide to apply for this scholarship, we hope that you, too, will be a source
of comfort, encouragement, and hope for the people you serve.

There is another, personal reason that we have donated this scholarship to CLC. We
have been blessed to have nurses in our family. Our mothers were nurses who trained and
served during World War II, and our own daughter is a dedicated nurse right here in Brainerd.

Our daughter began her medical training at CLC and she eventually graduated from
Normandale Community College in Bloomington, MN. Now, while working in this community,
we hear this report from other seasoned nurses: “She gets it.” Her ability to “get it” started in
this place: Central Lakes College. We remember how hard our daughter studied to become an
RN. Her co-workers and patients know that she uses her mind and her heart throughout every
shift. We know that type of nursing care is not always easy, but we are so grateful that
kindness motivates her.

*So, once again, we challenge you — should you decide to apply for this scholarship,
we hope you will begin to “get it” through your training at CLC. And, after you acquire the
training you need, we hope you will be willing to make a healing difference in the lives of the
people you encounter by offering them your own heartfelt care: a helping hand, calming words
and actions, good science, and a non-judgmental presence.
