Bob and Valerie Miller
It began in the fall of 1988 when we moved to Brainerd to found the Computerizing Small Business program at the Brainerd Area Technical Vocational Institute. Our journey lasted some 22 years and ended with retirement from the business program at Central Lakes College. We have been blessed with so many colleagues and friends supporting us over the years.
Bob was raised on a farm in South Dakota. A degree from Northern State College and an MBA from the University of South Dakota followed. A number of stops in education and Industry prepared the way for our move North.
Valerie is originally from Pipestone, Minnesota and moved several times over the years due to the promotions her father enjoyed with Northern States Power. She attended Winona State College and proceeded to follow a path that had her working for law firms in St. Paul. Valerie has been active in the Brainerd community, including a career at Herberger’s. She is currently working at Costco preparing the treats that we all enjoy.
It is our sincere wish to support career education and Central Lakes College by providing scholarships to students dedicated to pursuing their education.

As a returning Alumni of Central Lakes College from 1999 and a Minnesota Army National Guard Veteran, I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your generosity in funding the Robert and Valerie Miller Scholarship that I received this Semester year as part of my financial aid package. I feel very fortunate to have been chosen as a recipient of this award.
I plan to graduate in April 2019 with an Associate of Applied Science degree with a background in Automotive Technologies and Mobile Application Development. While I attend CLC full-time, I am the work-study for the Veteran’s Center, and I am the current Vice-President of the Student Council. With your thoughtful gift, I will be able focus more on the academic stress of college life and not as much on the financial. I am truly grateful for the assistance I am receiving. I hope to use my education to gain a position in my life to help make a difference in someone life, as you have made in mine.
Thank you again for the generous contribution which made my scholarship possible.
