Earl and Dorothy Wolleat

Earl and Dorothy Wolleat

Members of the first graduating class of the Brainerd Junior College in 1940, Earl Wolleat and Dorothy Welliver married in 1942. After serving as a pilot in WWII, Mr. Wolleat started work as a sweeper at the Northwest Paper Mill, and over many years worked his way up to corporate vice president of the parent corporation. He was active in Rotary, was president of the Lowell School PTA (where he and both children attended elementary school), and served a number of years on the Brainerd City Council. Mrs. Wolleat was a mother, Campfire leader, and a Red Cross volunteer at the Brainerd State School and Hospital and St. Joseph’s Hospital. She also owned and operated “Dottie’s” a gift and yarn shop in Nisswa. They retired to Pelican Lake where they became active in environmental organizations. This scholarship was endowed by their children Earl R. and Kathleen Wolleat and Drs. Jonathan and Catherine Wolleat Britell in their honor.

Impact

“I am very grateful to be the recipient of the generous Earl and Dorothy Wolleat Scholarship Fund. With this scholarship, I will be able to pay part of my tution that is not covered by other grants and military benefits. I look forward to another semester of working on my degree, and hope one day that because of generosity such as yours, I can complete this degree with little to no debt incurred as thus far I have been pulling overtime as well as going to school full time to avoid having to take out student loans. I sincerely appreciate this great gift towards my future and hope to have a great impact in the world of cyber security because of people like you helping me along the way.”

“It is with full heartfelt appreciation that I write this letter of thanks to you… When I graduate, I hope to be able to work for a 501©3 organization, or help others see the value and impact of community involvement. My studies are very important to me and I have been able to keep my GPA above 3.5 the entire time. Furthering my education has not been easy for me, but I knew that would be the case when I decided to postpone my studies for my family. It has brought me great pleasure to continue my education, and I greatly appreciate everyone that has helped me to achieve my goals. Receiving this scholarship will help ease the burden of finances that come along with being a student. Thank you very much for your generosity, and thank you for believing in me.”
