Jeff Smith Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship is awarded in memory of Jeff Smith who passed away in July of 2022 after a long battle with cancer. Jeff was a Brainerd native who graduated from Brainerd High School, Brainerd State Junior College, and later, St. Cloud State University with a degree in business education. Jeff’s teaching career spanned nearly 40 years. He retired from Central Lakes College in 2001. Former students often recall how they were treated by Mr. Smith. Mr. Smith built relationships by showing care and concern, treating students fairly and using a sense of humor in the classroom.

Family was a priority. Jeff was married nearly 57 years and had three children. He cherished his family and especially loved spending time with his eight grandchildren. Jeff also enjoyed sports, fishing and, in later years, attending flea markets to buy and sell antiques. This scholarship was established by Jeff’s family to honor his desire to help students achieve their educational goals.
